More Wrong Solutions...

I usually try to avoid talking about politics frequently on this blog because opinions are a dime a dozen in regard to the subject du jour.  However, some of the solutions being put forth by individual politicians as a response to the horrific murders in Arizona last Saturday are just pissing me off...

- Some want to curb supposedly 'inflammatory' speech.  It's still amazing to me how fast people were to blame whatever boogeyman suited them at the time, and without knowing the facts of the case to begin with.  The most egregious example has been the sheriff of Pima County, Clarence Dupnik, who keeps pressing blame on whatever national program he can whore himself out to.  Just do your job, sir.  Investigate the crime first, then blather on about whatever.

- Rep. Peter King (R-NY) proposed a ban on weapons within 1,000 feet of congressmen and senators.  Seriously, as if that is going to solve the problem.  Such a law would not have prevented Jared Loughner from shooting up the Safeway.  People seem to forget that criminals are criminals for a reason: they ignore the law. Jared Loughner obviously ignored the laws about murder, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon.

I guess it's just the old maxim about not letting a crisis go to waste.  Oh, wait, Rahm Emmanuel isn't actually buying that.  It's the No Labels Project instead.

P.S. I join the chorus of those who condemn the Westboro Baptist "Church" and its plan to picket the funeral of Christian Green.  They are a disgusting group and need to be consistently condemned in the strongest possible terms.
